Confident in the truth of the Christian message: evidence in personal experience
For the follower of Jesus Christ, as well as the evidence in the natural world, in history, and in human nature, still more evidence comes from our own personal experience: we have a real sense of knowing God and being in a relationship with him. We hear him speak to us through his Word, the Bible. We receive answers to our prayers - sometimes remarkable and unexpected answers.
This kind of personal testimony can have a powerful and persuasive role, both in re-assuring ourselves of the reality of what we believe, and in sharing our faith with others.
However, we must be careful how we use this: our confidence in the truth of the Good News is not only based on personal experience, but also on the objective facts that are outlined in this section of the web site. When we talk to someone who is not a follower of Christ, although our personal experience can be powerful and persuasive, it is still only personal experience. Other people may counter it because they have had different kinds of experience - perhaps through New Age meditation, the use of drugs, or a different Faith.
